Obituary for Willard Cavicchi

Willard Cavicchi
Willard V. Cavicch
born in Ingramport, Nova Scotia on July 8, 1931, passed away on February 13, 2017 to be with his loving wife of 66 years, Elaine (Slaughenwhite). Willard spent his working years as a much sought after operator of heavy equipment, for which he possessed a special skill and love. He belonged to the International Union of Operating Engineers as well as a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association, retiring at the age of sixty. For many years he served St. James Anglican Church in Boutilier’s Point as a Warden and as a Vestry member; also assuming the role of grounds keeper of the cemetery. He found much joy in the outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting and retreats to the family camp, “Isle Rest”. Poppy, as he was known by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, loved nothing better than spending time with them. He was meticulous about his yard and property and could often be found putting finishing touches on things that were already completed. Willard will always be known for his honesty, integrity and dedication to his family. He will be remembered as a guy who walked “beside” us with unspoken words, who allowed us to make our choices and to pick us up when we faltered. Willard was predeceased by his wife Elaine and his parents, John and Florence (Christie) Cavicchi of Boutilier’s Point, and sister Joan in early childhood. He leaves behind sister Barbara McEachern (Lester) Boutilier’s Point. He will be greatly missed by son Willard (Maryjean) Boutilier’s Point; daughter Heather Cavicchi (Halifax); son Kirk (Debby) Hubley; son Grant (Beverley) Upper Tantallon; son Craig (Melissa) Upper Tantallon; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Thanks are extended to Dr. Krista Thompson who offered him care and compassion for many years. More recently to Dr. Mark Bosma who gave our father hope during a difficult time. Visitation will take place from 6:00 until 9:00pm May 12, 2017 in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, 13549 Peggy’s Cove Rd., Upper Tantallon. Funeral service will take place 10 a.m. May 13th, 2017 in St. James Anglican Church, Boutilier’s Point. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. James Cemetery Fund, St. James Anglican Church, St. Margaret’s Bay Rd., Boutilier’s Point, B3Z 1W4. On line condolences may be made to www.rawalker.ca
