Obituary for Kenneth Parker

Kenneth Parker
Kenneth Allen Parker
Surrounded by his family, Kenneth Allen Parker, 80, passed away on Sunday, November 26 in Halifax. Ken is survived by his wife Shelagh, sons Ron (Lisa), Terry (Tricia), John (Caroline) and daughter Lori (Darren Wadden) and several nieces and nephews. He was a proud grampy of Bethany, Jonathan, JJ, Max and Anna. He was born in Halifax in 1937. He was the son of Eunice and Hugh John Parker and grew up in Queensland, Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers (Stewart and Robert) and his sister Betty. Ken spent 14 years in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps Reserves and he was awarded the Canadian Decoration Medal upon retirement. He was member of the F.E. Butler Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion in Chester for 45 years. Ken was an active member of his community in the Black Point, Queensland and Hubbards area. He was a Cub leader; he held many positions in the District #1 Volunteer Fire Department; President of the South Shore Regional Recreation Association; Sunday School Superintendant; Chairman of the District #8 Board of School Trustees; and Instructor, Saint John Ambulance First-Aid Courses. His first aid skills came in very handy as a Dad of maladroit children. His work history included experiences as sales representative, credit manager and warehouse manager. His hobbies and interests included wood carving and model trains. Our very own Elephant Man, he had a massive collection of trunked pachyderms. He was also an avid collector of stamps, coins, model cars and lapel pins. He loved teasing his grand kids and manning the barbeque. He was a veritable handyman dabbling in plumbing, electrical, renovations in the home and digging out the basement, by hand. He also enjoyed long daily walks along the shore in Black Point. We want to thank the exceptional staff on Sullivan’s Lane of Parkstone Enhanced Care, along with Drs. Jim McLean and Chris MacKnight. The Funeral service will be held at the Ronald A Walker Funeral Home , 13549 Peggys Cove Road, Upper Tantallon on Friday December 1 at 1:00pm . In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of your choice. Online condolences can be made to www.rawalker.ca
