James “Jim” Edward Stewart
age 89 of Head of St Margarets Bay, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully March 1, 2018. Born August 3, 1928 in Anyox, British Columbia he was the son of James and Dorothea (Feary) Stewart. Jim is survived by his wife Heather Clare (Macnab) Stewart; his son, Gregory (Elisabeth Paul) Stewart of North Vancouver; grandsons, Felix and Andre Stewart; sister, Breta (Roy) Dunbar of Toronto; nieces, Wendy and Debbie Dunbar of Toronto; brother-in-law, Alan (Anne) Macnab of Victoria; sister-in-law, Jean (Tom Anderson) Macnab of Ottawa. He was predeceased by son, Ronald James Stewart, sister Patricia Black, brother Edward “Jerry” Stewart, and brother-in-law Roy Dunbar. Jim was hard-working and independent; he paid his way through university by working as a logger in the coastal forests of British Columbia. He studied microbiology and biochemistry at the University of British Columbia and later the University of Iowa. Jim worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans from 1958-1996 as both a scientist and in various management positions. Throughout his life Jim maintained his love of working outdoors and took great pride and pleasure in landscaping and in harvesting and splitting his own firewood. He will be greatly missed by his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
