The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of R. Frederick Vaughan can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence: Carol and sons, I just heard the bad news and can’t believe it! We returned from Australia and I called the Miller’s who told me. I have to admit I adored Fred from our first meeting on the private drive in Southwest Cove eleven years ago to our efforts to help the movie star Patricia in all her moves. His humor and helpfulness in his nonjudgmental way got us through some trying times. Northwest Cove won’t be the same without Fred. Lars and I are so sorry!

Condolence: I was so sorry to learn that such a wonderful man as Fred is no longer with us. I will always remember Fred as an example of what an academic should be--distinguished in his research and a man of great integrity.

He was also such a pleasure to be around. His sense of humour and his abilities as a raconteur meant it was a great loss when he was no longer a person I might meet in the halls of academe in Guelph.

Fred will be long remembered. My sympathy to Carol and others in his family.

Condolence: Dear Carol, Geoff, Kevin, and family:
Our hearts are with you today as you celebrate Fred's remarkably accomplished life. It was with great sadness that we learnt of Fred's passing. The Vaughan family will always be near and dear to us, allowing wonderful memories of our time as neighbours in the Kingdom of Deli.
We always enjoyed your happy family's laughter from the yard next door. Whether looking after each others' pets or sharing good times, we felt lucky to have moved back to Guelph near your family.
Carol, your devotion to Fred was second to none and the two of you made raising a family look easy. We are so glad you have your wonderful sons at your side.
Well, perhaps Jacquie B's devotion came up a close second. As I write, I can still see Jacquie circling Fred into the house following a fun night on the patio. We shared laughter after the scene unfolded when McGee took up her place at the fence one morning, determined to establish her dominance over Jacquie, and proving good fences make good neighbours.

Condolence: My sincere condolences to Fred's family.
I was a student of Fred's at the University of Guelph 1970-71 and remember clearly the Political Theory, American Government and Constitutional Law courses I took with him.

Condolence: Dear Carol,
I am so sorry to hear of Fred’s passing. My thoughts are with you and your family.
I hope you will be comforted by your memories of all the stories, laughter, and good times you shared with Fred. I always see Fred smiling and laughing when I think of him. I met him through SCANS and my last contact with him was a query about a new class he was thinking about. I enjoyed his teaching, his example of scholarship, and his friendship. He will be missed by many.
I send my sincere sympathy and my best wishes as you make your way through these difficult times.

Condolence: Dear Carol,

Marie and I did not meet Fred until he was teaching at SCANS. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed all of his courses. He was a truly great and inspired teacher in addition to being a wonderful and charming man. Indeed, in my case, his example motivated me to design my own course for SCANS. It was a pleasure to know him. Marie and I both sympathize with you in your loss and wish you all the best in these trying times.
